A couples massage in Queenstown usually means two tables and a room. At Onsen Hot Pools & Day Spa it means a little more: a soak in a cedar-lined hot pool above the Shotover River canyon first, then side-by-side treatments in a twin-share room, with time to relax afterwards with complimentary refreshments, before you head out on your next adventure.

One room, two therapists, two different treatments

Onsen’s Couples Package places you side by side in one twin-share treatment room. However, you do not have to choose the same treatment. One of you can book the deep tissue massage to undo a week on the slopes, while the other settles into a hot stone experience. Your treatments run at the same time, in the same room, with your own therapist.

Choose a couples massage treatment each

The treatment menu is curated and delivered by award-winning therapists. Current options include:

  • Onsen Revival (Deep Tissue): a 60-minute full-body massage focused on tension and recovery. A favourite with skiers and hikers. Not suitable during pregnancy.
  • Paradise Bespoke (Relaxation): a 60-minute full-body relaxation massage using Pure Fiji cold-pressed nut oils. Available in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.
  • Ultimate Paradise (Hot Stone): two indulgent hours that combine a 75-minute hot stone massage with a 45-minute facial, including Gua Sha.
  • Aotearoa Journey: a two-hour holistic treatment featuring Rotorua Thermal Mud, Manuka Honey, and Kawakawa balm.
  • Seasonal Treatment by Sothys 120: a two-hour pairing of a 60-minute massage and a seasonal facial.
  • Organics Radiance Treatment: a 60-minute option that combines a back massage and a facial.

Soak first: the hot pool half of the experience

The rhythm at Onsen is arrive, soak, treatment, relax. Before your couples massage, the two of you can settle into a cedar hot pool set in its own room for exclusive use, with a retractable roof and views over the canyon. A complimentary drink and snack arrive while you soak. By the time you reach the treatment table, the soak has already done half the therapist’s work.

If you are marking an anniversary, a honeymoon, or simply the end of a long season, Onsen is for you.

Rooted in Aotearoa

Onsen’s signature treatments lean into natural New Zealand ingredients: Kawakawa balm, Manuka Honey, Rotorua Thermal Mud, and Pure Fiji cold-pressed botanicals.

Booking a couples massage in Queenstown

The hot pools and treatment rooms book out fast, and we recommend reserving 4-6 weeks ahead, especially for evenings, weekends, and winter dates. Availability is currently released well into next year, so the earlier you plan, the better your choice of times.

The Couples Package starts from around $265 per person with a one-hour treatment, or from $400 per person with a two-hour treatment. Treatments are for guests aged sixteen and over. A complimentary shuttle runs from central Queenstown to Onsen at 160 Arthurs Point Road, roughly ten minutes away, so the logistics take care of themselves.

Common questions

Can we have our massages at the same time?

Yes. The Couples Package is side by side in one twin-share room, with a therapist each.

Do we both need to pick the same treatment?

No. Each guest chooses their own treatment from the menu.

Is there a pregnancy-safe option?

Yes. The Paradise Bespoke relaxation massage is available in the second and third trimesters. The deep tissue massage is not suitable during pregnancy. Please refer to each treatment in the treatment menu for information or contact our reservations team for assistance.

How long should we allow?

Two to four hours, depending on your treatments. Allow time afterwards to relax with refreshments rather than rushing back to town.
